3 Factors Linked To Snoring

Snoring is the sound you make, while sleeping, due to the vibration in the respiratory structures. In this situation, the air movement gets obstructed while breathing, resulting in the sound. The throat or pharynx is a muscular tube that relaxes and decreases in size when you are sleeping.

There are quite a few ways to stop snoring and cure snoring problems in most cases. Snoring is mainly caused by any narrowing on the passage of air through your throat. There are different contributing aspects of why this could happen to someone. It can be hereditary, age, weight, sedative intake, allergies, sleeping position, among others. The tissue in the throat is soft. Because of this, it is prone to swelling or enlargement and if that happens even sleeping on your back can make the airway tighter leading to friction of muscles that in turn becomes the sound of snoring.

3 Factors that have been linked to people who snore;

  1. Lose Weight – Being overweight could make the tissue of your neck or throat swell up as well as a sedentary lifestyle that lacks exercise. This can cause snoring.
  2. Stop Using Sleeping Pills? – These medications often cause your muscles to relax and make snoring worse. Your lack of sleep may be linked to your snoring so you should see your doctor and ask for a referral to an ear, nose and throat specialist. They will do some tests to establish the cause and then work out a treatment for you.
  3. Quit Smoking – Smokers commonly tend to be snorers, this is due to the inflammation and swelling of the throat tissue. It is hard to quit this habit, but it does cause phlegm to form in the throat resulting in more tissue vibration which causes snoring. It will also improve your overall health, and your health is important.
